4 Reasons Why We Love Greece

February 14, 2023
February is a month of love and our yearly appointment with St. Valentine! It’s the time of year when we emphasize the importance of love and even celebrate its beauty. But this traditional day isn’t just about lovers and sweethearts, it’s about love in all its forms and manifestations. For us, this February is about reminiscing on how our story started with genuine love for our home country - Greece!

Greece is a country bestowed with breathtaking natural beauty, an unbelievably rich history, warmhearted people, and strong values. It might even be true that it has been graced by the gods themselves! Yet, as we grew from planning unique luxury trips to Greece to planning them to 14 destinations, it’s good timing for us to take a moment, remember and appreciate all that Greece has and still offers to all of us.

This year on Valentine's Day, we’re falling in love with Greece all over again! Here’s why…

1. Greece Is Our Home

4 reasons we love Greece 1

We may have grown to include 13 destinations in our portfolio, which, don’t get us wrong, we love and cherish one by one, but Greece holds a special place in our hearts. We just can’t help it - home is where the heart is. It’s its distinctive hospitality that has its roots in the ancient concept of philoxenia and the authentic charm of its people. It’s also the unequivocal warm feeling that you get almost everywhere you go, from the biggest avenue in Athens to the narrowest cobblestone street in Santorini. Greece is where we started. Greece tells the story of who we are and is a collection of what we love most about travel. Greece is home, and there’s no place like it.

2. Mouth-Watering Food

Greek cuisine and its delicious dishes are renowned all over the world. Of course you’ve heard of the classics like gyros and moussaka, but Greece has some of the most flavorful dishes you will ever savor, anywhere. It is arguably one of the most diverse cuisines in the world with enough vegetable options to meet every vegetarian’s preferences, and enough meat options to please even the toughest of critics. But that’s not all! Greek cuisine is very nutritional and a strong base for the Mediterranean diet. Greece is blessed with a wealth of naturally gourmet products, foods that come from the land and sea, and have a long (and sometimes ancient) history rooted in the land, like chamomile, mastiha, saffron and olives!

3. Remarkable History

Often referred to as the cradle of western civilization, Greece has gifted the world with many graces including democracy and philosophy, politics and law, science and mathematics, literature and theater, and of course the Olympic Games too! The ancient ruins found along every pathway throughout Greece attest to the country’s remarkable history. Such ancient sites continue to exist in all their significance and impressive glory; 18 of them are included as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The fact that they still evoke the same sense of awe in visitors as they did thousands of years ago is priceless.

4. Greek Sunshine

The season Greece is most widely known for is definitely summer and that’s thanks to its innumerable sun-drenched sandy beaches. But we’ll let you in on a little secret (and be sure to try it out before it catches on too quickly) - spring, fall, and winter - Greece is just perfect all year round! Its golden sun shines for more than 250 days of the year, making it one of the sunniest places in Europe!

Although we could probably write a whole book, these are only a few of the reasons why we love our home. Happy Valentine’s Day, Greece! We will always be hopelessly devoted to you!
