On the way back to Funchal, you will head toward Paúl da Serra and descend towards the coast to Ponta do Sol, Ribeira Brava, and take the motorway back to Funchal.

Discovering the Volcanic History of Madeira

This tour will introduce you to the volcanic origins of the island of Madeira and teach you about the geological transformations that Madeira has undergone over the millennia. You will head to the volcanic caves of Sao Vicente on Madeira´s northern coast. Once there you will be able to see the inner recesses of the island and evidence of the volcanic convulsion that led to Madeira’s creation. The caves are in essence a series of lava tubes that were created over 400 thousand years ago. Located near Sao Vicente, the volcano welcoming center combines science and culture with leisure and entertainment. Here you can watch its exciting audiovisual shows that depict how the volcano gave shape to the caves and the island of Madeira itself.
