Emeralds of Ireland Tour

Emeralds of Ireland Tour

Follow your guide along the northern shore of Galway Bay into Connemara, one of the most beautiful, un-spoilt and authentically Irish locations one can find. Connemara has long been regarded as the real emerald of Ireland as it has a deep bond and identifies strongly with traditional Irish culture and especially the Connacht Irish who speak Gaeltacht. From Connemara and Clifden take The Sky Road to Kylemore Abbey built-in 1868 as a private residence for the Mitchell family. The Abbey and surrounding lands were purchased in 1920 by the Irish Benedictine Nuns after their Abbey in Ypres, Belgium was destroyed during World War I. The estate is also home to some exquisite Victorian Gardens, which only add to the overall magical and fairy tale ambiance of the Abbey.

A Unique Day Trip from Galway to Dublin

A Unique Day Trip from Galway to Dublin

Make your way back to Dublin but not without a few stops first - a walk around Galway city, a fun-loving, vibrant city that is famous for its music tradition and festivals. Then on to Clonmacnoise the 6th-century monastic city founded by St Ciaran on the banks of The River Shannon. Mostly comprised of beautiful ruins the site includes a derelict cathedral, seven recently conserved churches, three high crosses, two round towers and an extensive collection of Early Christian gravestones. The best way to round of the day is a visit to the Kilbeggan distillery, founded in 1757 after a tumultuous history it closed in 1957 as was left to decay. It was lovingly restored by the local community in 1982 and was consequently purchased by the Cooley Distillery, who in 2007 began to produce Kilbeggan and Lockes Whiskey once again.
