Santorini - At A Glance
Superlatives easily come to mind when describing the Greek islands, but there’s no doubt that Santorini lives up to its reputation for exceptional beauty and sophisticated ambiance. Its spectacular landscapes, well-developed tourist infrastructure, and significant archaeological remains make it one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in the world. In fact, Santorini is perennially voted one of the top 10 travel destinations globally, attracting everyone from young honeymooners to older sophisticates. A second, smaller island called Thirasia is located at the northern tip of Santorini, while the islands of Palea Kameni, Nea Kameni, and Aspronisi sit within its lagoon-like sea. Even though it’s most famous for its caldera and stunning landscapes, Santorini is also home to a few small yet particularly interesting museums. Despite its compact size—barely 10 miles from one end to the other—Santorini is an island full of wonders and hidden treasures.
GETTING AROUND
BY TAXI
Although all of your transfers to airports, stations, harbors, and hotels have likely been included in your TrueTrip experience, there may be instances where you’ll need to use a taxi to get around. Always ensure that the driver starts the meter when you enter the taxi, and check the meter before you pay. If in doubt about a fare, please consult your hotel concierge, who can also arrange taxi pick-ups for you.
BY CAR
Although public transportation makes getting around quite easy, if you’d like to explore more of the island, you may wish to rent a car. Your hotel concierge can assist with arrangements through a local rental company. We always recommend careful and cautious driving in Europe, as roads can be old, narrow, and subject to high volumes of traffic.
BY MOPED
Renting a moped is quite popular on the Greek islands, and having your own means of transportation provides independence and allows for greater exploration. However, it’s important to remember that the roads are typically old, very narrow, and often busy—so we strongly advise exercising a high level of caution when using this mode of transportation. Your hotel concierge can help arrange a rental for you.
